Dago’s Report
Since July a lot has happened and a lot has been done at Casa da Videira. Here’s a summary of some interesting facts:
Getting paid to evangelize
Because of last year’s great success of the video production project called Nós na Tela (video production to the voiceless and faceless youth from the outskirts of Curitiba), the educational branch of the major TV network in Brazil, Canal Futura, decided to hire a Journalist to work with me in this project. Carol Fagundes, 24, has had a life altering experience and a complete shift in her relationship with Jesus.
Canal Furtura has been paying her a monthly salary for her to work along with me in Nós na Tela. There have been great conversations between us and divine encounters between Carol and the Lord at Casa da Videira.
And that’s not all
Futura has also invested in our project in material terms: mini DVs, DVDs, stationary items, movie rentals, airline tickets for meeting in Rio de Janeiro, among others. They have also contributed in sending their experts in the area of video from Rio several times. All of this has surely cost thousands of dollars.
Just yesterday I got a call from a representative of Futura from the most southern region of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, saying she was happy to announce that because of the example of our video project, Casa da Videira will receive free cable (equipment, antenna and everything else included) which would normally cost at least 1,000.00 dollars yearly.
Any production to show?
In September, I raised money for three of the kids who participate in Nós na Tela to take part in an Animation in Stop Motion workshop at a visual art center which has now become a partner. Three animations were produced and will be submitted to a “minute festival”. The productions will be shown this upcoming Saturday, Oct 27th.

In August, I coordinated a research, scripting and editing of two mini-documentaries about Beauty, in an alternative look, both of which were produced with 3 of the teenagers form Nós na Tela and in partnership with another video production initiative called Olho Vivo. Both videos will be shown on TV nationally several times this year and next.

Besides having made two video clips with the kids with some important Brazilian pop songs, we’ve been working on a ten-minute documentary about the alternative uses of transportation (bike vs. cars). It has been hard work! Still, there’s not time to waste since we are also working on a 30-minute video program about Nós na Tela to be shown on December 9th on Canal Futura.
One of my personal challenges has been to work with the kids especially in the scope of their apathy, ego centeredness and individualism which permeates the service-provider and consumer-oriented society they (we) are immersed in.
I have been in charge of the Caminho website. There are currently 40 videos online, all of which have been produced for/at/with Casa da Videira. Plus there are 27 audios (music and lectures) from a variety of topics and styles.
Sustainability… a starting point
I have gathered some friends involved with video production to form a Media Center for Casa da Videira. Little by little, our Media Center has been called to produce videos for several clients like guilds, groups and persons. 20% of what is paid goes to Casa da Videira.
One of the most committed and promising people in the team is Thiago Couto, a real companion in everything video-related, as well as a good friend and a right arm in terms of ideas and productions.

I also organized several music shows in order to raise money for the project. Every time, the show is filmed and a DVD given to the artists. These shows have made it possible for us to buy a Camcorder (which has been exhaustively used since it was acquired in August!).

Well…
There are many other details to be told. I’ll save them for a personal conversation. When I look back, it’s hard to believe that so much good has happened in such a short time. It surely isn’t because of our human efforts.
God bless,
Dago Schelin
